Is D&I a Fad?

A Fad is “a practice or interest followed for a time with exaggerated zeal”. The word is used to describe something that piques interest for a period of time but does not last. It does not last because, simply, there are not enough people who authentically believe in it and take action to make it a part of what they do every day.

Right now, there are lots of headlines and statements from leaders and companies indicating support for the idea of Diversity & Inclusion.

But will it last?

Some of the statements are from those who have long been associated with this idea and have taken bold action to root behaviours and practices into their culture. For another group, they know this is the right thing to do, and they want to do more, but they do not know where to start and the priority has until now not been great enough to take action. And for another group, this idea is simply something that is seen as currently popular that they should jump on.

Which group are you in?

If you have been trailblazing, continue to do so. Your examples will be essential for others to take action because it is not only the right thing to do but also because it is the smart thing to do. If you are looking for where to start, you may look to the trailblazers and others who may be able to help you. If you are thinking about this idea because it is currently popular, you may wish to look at it further. If you arrive at an authentic belief you should jump in. If not, perhaps you may wish to look even further, talk to your employees, customers, suppliers and listen to their perspectives.

Diversity & Inclusion of all forms has a proven track record of success. Those who embrace these concepts outperform their competitors, gain greater engagement from employees and are rewarded by customers. This is on top of just being the right thing to do.

At CrowdBridge, our mission is to help you take quick, real action to bring out the intellectual diversity of your workforce, improve your decision making and results. By adopting this inclusive approach to work, the best ideas rise to the top regardless of where they come from and we can help you to identify the talent generating the greatest impact.
